Orange blossom water

Orange blossom water is a by-product of the distillation of orange blossom buds . Similar to rose water , it is mainly used to flavor desserts and baked goods .

Orange blossom water is a popular “spice” in Morocco , which is mostly obtained from the blossoms of bitter oranges , the bitter oranges . In the spring, the flowers are picked - the flower buds are still closed - and put aside for two days before the neroli oil is obtained by steam distillation . The condensed water is the orange blossom water. The full bottles are closed and rest for four to five months. About five liters of orange blossom water can be obtained from three kilograms of flowers. In Morocco, orange blossom water is often made at home. In German-speaking countries, it is available from specialized spice shops and pharmacies. Orange blossom water is used to flavor pastries, creams, glazes and cocktails such as the Ramos (or New Orleans) Gin Fizz .
