The order " Hero Mother " ( Romanian Mamă eroină ) was a state award of the People's Republic of Romania . With the order, the honored mother was also given the honorary title of the same name ( Titlul de onoare mamâ eroinâ si ). The foundation took place on November 6, 1951 by decree 195 of the Council of State ( Consiliul de stat ). The statutes were published in the Romanian State Gazette ( Buletinul oficial ) No. 109 of November 8, 1951. The medal and honorary title were awarded to women who had born and raised ten or more children.

Appearance and wearing style

The medal consists of a five-pointed star made of real gold, which rests on silver rays. In the upper point of the star are the Romanian capital letters RPR . In 1965 the inscription was replaced by the new form of government RSR . The medal was worn by the tapering eyelet on a red enamelled and decorated carrying clasp with the inscription MAMA EROINA . The back of the medal is smooth and shows the stamped award number.

From an unknown point in time, the medal was no longer made of precious metal and inferior non-ferrous metal was used instead.
