Maternity Medal (Romania)

The Maternity Medal ( Romanian Medalia maternității ) was a state award of the People's Republic of Romania . The foundation took place on November 6, 1951 by Decree No. 109 of the Council of State ( Consiliul de stat ). The statutes were published on November 8, 1951 in the Romanian State Gazette ( Buletinul oficial ) No. 109. The medal, which was donated in two classes, was given to mothers with six children in 1st class and in 2nd class given to mothers with five children.

Appearance and wearing style

The obverse of the medal is silver in 1st class and bronze in 2nd class. Both show a woman looking to the left within a laurel wreath and the head of a child behind it. A five-pointed star is emblazoned on the upper left half of the medal. The lower edge of the medal shows a stylized bow with the capital letters RPR , then RSR from 1965 . The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows hammer and sickle in its center and the inscription: MEDALIA MATERNITATII

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the recipient. In 1st class on a white enamelled stylized bow with blue side stripes and in 2nd class with green side stripes.
