The Order of African Liberation was passed on January 18, 1879 by the Liberian Senate.

It was established under the name " Liberian Humanitarian Order of African Liberation ". The purpose was "to proclaim the glory and goodness of God by all just means and laws for the moral improvement of the African peoples who are under the government of the Republic of Liberia or are in neighboring places or regions.

Order classes

The order is divided into three classes:

Order decoration

A five-pointed, white enamelled gold-framed star is set at the tips with small golden balls and has golden rays bursting out in the corners. A centrally round central shield is surrounded by a green enameled laurel wreath and shows a cross of wood color in front of which a man kneels on one side and a woman on the other. Both have broken chains on their feet. The back is adorned with the national coat of arms. A gold-framed, blue-enamelled ring surrounds the central shield. In this the motto of the order in gold letters THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE . At the star tip pointing upwards is a green enameled laurel wreath with a carrying eyelet.

Carrying method

The Grand Cross was carried on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip, as well as with a breast star on the left side of the chest. This breast star is the same as the sign of the order, but twice as large and without a green laurel wreath with the ribbon ring. The second class decorated the award as a neck medal and the officer's cross was worn on the ribbon on the left side of the chest.

The ribbon shows the national colors of Liberia. The center is in red and on the sides of the tape there are three white and two red stripes on both sides. The edge is Turkish blue.
