The coat of arms of Liberia has been in its current form on 16th July 1847 introduced.

Design of the coat of arms

Surrounded by a golden shield, you can see a coastal landscape with a rising sun and a ship that probably dates from the 19th century. In the foreground there is also a plow and a shovel stuck in the green ground next to a palm tree, as well as a white pigeon delivering a message.

Above and below the shield are two signature bands of the motto of the country ( The love of liberty Brought us here - The love of liberty brought us here ) as well as the country's name ( Republic of Liberia - Republic of Liberia ) displayed.

Meaning of the symbols

The sign is supposed to describe the genesis of the state of Liberia: Although the so-called Pepper Coast was discovered by the Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias as early as the 15th century , European colonization of this area did not occur until 1822, six years after the American Colonization Society was founded , aimed at the settlement of released black slaves in the United States , the first of these settlers reached the area. They came to Africa from America on sailing ships similar to the one shown on the coat of arms. This is also where the country's motto comes from. The white dove, which can be seen at the top of the picture, symbolizes a message of peace and goodwill to other countries.
