symbolism

There is no official meaning of the colors. The following assignment is often made:

  • Orange stands for the Sahara desert in the north of the country.
  • Green stands for the grass plains in the south and west through which the Niger River flows.
  • White represents hope . For the state of Niger it also symbolizes the savanna region .

The spear symbolizes the groups with dark skin, the Sahel inhabitants and the Hausa . The sword stands for the groups with white skin, the Sahara inhabitants. The weapons are also supposed to remind of the empires of the past.

The three millet cobs indicate agriculture.

The zebu head stands for the important cattle breeding and for the nomads living in the north .
