The international law to Somalia belonging Puntland gave up in 2009 its own coat of arms.

The heraldic shield shows the five-pointed golden crowned flag of Puntland, rotated by 90 °, with the star tip pointing upwards. Shield holders are two upright natural-colored horses , their heads turned towards the shield, standing on two crossed spears, braided with a ribbon, over both of which are two crossed green palm fronds.

The coat of arms is clearly based on the coat of arms of Somalia . The Puntland sees itself as an autonomous part of Somalia and in 2009 gave itself its own coat of arms.
