The coat of arms of the Sahara Democratic Arab Republic is a symbol introduced by POLISARIO , the largest Western Saharan political and military organization fighting against the Moroccan occupation .

Design of the coat of arms

In the center of the coat of arms there are two rifles, each of which has the flag of the Sahara Democratic Arab Republic . A red crescent moon and a red five-pointed star are depicted above . A red banner forms the base of the coat of arms, and two olive branches are attached to the right and left .

Meaning of the symbols

The two rifles stand for the military efforts that are still needed to found an independent Western Saharawi state and the many victims who have already lost their lives for this. The olive branches are supposed to represent the peace that follows. The banner shows the POLISARIO motto, here it is written in black on red in Hassania - Arabic : Freedom - Democracy - Unity ( Arabic حرية ديمقراطية وحدة, DMG ḥurrīya, dīmuqrāṭīya, waḥda ). The coat of arms mainly shows the colors red, green, white and black used by most of the Islamic states in flags and coats of arms; Crescent and star are two other symbols for Islam.
