A circular black banner is placed around it , with the state name in French in the upper half and in Arabic in the lower half . These in turn are surrounded by a circle made of two white and green olive branches.

The design is based on the Comorian order Ordre du Croissant vert , which also consists of the eight-pointed star and the crescent moon with the four stars.

symbolism

Like the flag of the Comoros , which shows the essential elements of the crescent moon and stars in green and white, the coat of arms underlines the Comoros claim to Mayotte , the fourth island of the archipelago, which is a French overseas territory .
