Lindenbergfriedhof, overview

The Lindenbergfriedhof is the largest cemetery in the urban area of Siegen . It is located on the Lindenberg , in the east of the city area. Founded in 1857 , it has an area of 204,000 m² with 17,900 graves. Around 380 burials take place every year.

The new cemetery hall with its typical pointed slate roof can be seen from many places in the city of Siegen, which burned down shortly after construction on May 7, 2002 and had to be rebuilt.

Muslim grave fields were set up in 1996, and in 2003 a grave field with a memorial stone for miscarriages and stillbirths under 500 grams. Anonymous burials are possible elsewhere.

In 2005 a crematorium was completed next to the cemetery . This made cremation possible in Siegen. The building includes a mourning and farewell room as well as a meeting room. The construction was initially controversial, but the expected environmental pollution did not occur after the construction.

At the top is the Jewish cemetery , where around 60 people were buried from 1871 to 1914. In the middle of the Lindenberg cemetery is the so-called Gruftenweg with generously designed graves, some of which date from the 19th century. This part and the Jewish cemetery are under monument protection .

The facilities extend over a large part of the steep slopes of the mountain of the same name, which face Siegen. From the upper paths there is an excellent view of the city center, the Upper Castle and the Nikolaikirche , with Siegen's landmark, the little crown .
