The national coat of arms of Egypt is Saladin's eagle and is also the emblem of the national flag and has been in use in this form since October 4, 1984.
In the claws of Saladin's eagle is a scroll with the Arabic name of Egypt: Jumhūriyyat Misr al-ʿarabiyya /جمهوريّة مصرالعربيّة / 'Arab Republic of Egypt'. The eagle has a shield with the flag on its chest - but in a vertical instead of a horizontal division. Even after the end of the United Arab Republic in 1961, the eagle wore two stars instead until 1971. Between 1972 and 1984, the eagle was replaced by the Quraysh falcon under the Federation of Arab Republics .
