The seal is based on a golden round disc. In the middle of the disk, the map of the island is shown on a smaller silver disk. Behind it are stylized fronds of the Ravenala tree . Below the silver disc there is a beef head and rice fields . On the edge of the coat of arms there are two lettering in Malagasy . At the top of the seal is the name of the state: Repoblikan'i Madagasikara and at the bottom, between two ears of rice, is the state motto: Tanindrazana, Fahafahana, Fandrosoana , in German: Fatherland, freedom, progress .
