The coat of arms of Ghana was awarded on March 4, 1957, two days before the country's independence, by Elizabeth II Ghana and has been the official national coat of arms of Ghana.

It shows a blue shield, which is square with a green St. George's cross with a gold border . In the center of the cross is the gold running lion of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland . This symbolizes Ghana's close relationship with the Commonwealth and the Kingdom. The first field at the top right shows a golden sword in blue , as it is used in ceremonies , which lies with a so-called golden staff of linguists or language experts, the Okyeame , as a St. Andrew's cross . This is the symbol for the regional governments of Ghana. The field on the left shows the representation of a castle in front of a sea, the presidential palace - which is located in Accra on the Gulf of Guinea - and thus symbolizes the national government. In the third blue field of the shield there is a cocoa tree with fruits in the base of the shield on a green background , which is supposed to embody the agricultural wealth of Ghana. The fourth and last field - bottom left - shows a gold mine on a green background in blue , which stands for the wealth of natural resources in Ghana.

There is a bead on the shield that consists of the Pan-African colors red-gold-green, which are also found in the national flag of Ghana . On it stands a gold-rimmed black five-pointed star , symbol of the freedom of Africa. This symbol is also included in the national flag.

Two golden, red-armored eagles serve as coat-of-arms holders , around their necks a black star of this kind on a ribbon in the national colors. They are on a golden tape on which the national motto of Ghana is written in red capitals : FREEDOM AND JUSTICE ( Eng. , "Freedom and Justice" ).
