A new flag was adopted as the flag of the Comoros at the beginning of 2002.

The elements of the old flag, which only consisted of a crescent moon and four white stars on a green background, were taken over into a triangle on the mast. Four horizontal stripes of equal width were added, symbolizing the four islands of the Comorian archipelago:

The four white stars also represent the four islands. The crescent moon and the color green stand for Islam , the state religion of the Comoros. The flag design was changed frequently before 2002, the exact orientation of the stars is not specified. The previous flag of the current flag had several variants for the position of the word Allah (الله) on the obverse, there is also a variant in which the obverse and lapel do not differ.
