Description and meaning

Structure of the national flag

The national flag is light blue. In the middle of the flag there is a horizontal black band with white borders.

The color blue symbolizes the sky as well as water and rain and comes from the coat of arms of Botswana , in which the word "rain" is written. The stripes in white and black, which are also found on the zebras , which are the shield holders of the coat of arms, stand for the harmony between the different ethnic groups, the larger black symbolizes the dark-skinned majority and the small white ones the light-skinned minority.

As a landlocked country with no access to navigable waters, Botswana has no sea flags.
