The flag of the Republic of Chad was introduced on November 6, 1959 after the country became autonomous .
Description and meaning
The national flag is a combination of the French tricolor and the pan-African colors : a vertical tricolor with (from left to right) a blue, a yellow and a red field.
The blue symbolizes the clear sky, hope and the southern part of the country. The yellow part stands for the numerous deserts in the north of the country and the sun. The red symbolizes progress, unity and the willingness of the citizens to sacrifice themselves for the country.
Colours
Since Romania removed its socialist national coat of arms from the flag in 1989, both countries have had national flags with the same colors and the same aspect ratio (2: 3) and with the same arrangement of colors. The only difference, which is hardly noticeable at first glance, is the color of the blue stripe. While the flag of Romania has a medium blue tone, Chad adopted the very dark blue tone of the former colonial power France . The civil flag of Andorra has a different aspect ratio besides a different color; Furthermore, the middle stripe is slightly wider than the two outer ones. The flag of the Republic of Moldova also carries the country's national coat of arms.
