Description and meaning

The flag of Guinea is borrowed from the French tricolor , as the country was a French colony until its independence in 1958. The colors of the flag are those of the Democratic Party of Guinea , which led the country to independence. They also correspond to the pan-African colors red, yellow and green. Mali uses the same tricolor as its flag , but with the green stripe on the side of the pole.

Red stands for the sweat that was necessary to build up the country and the blood for the struggle for freedom. Yellow symbolizes the sun, the belief in justice and the gold wealth of Guinea. Green represents the lush vegetation and the incentive of citizens to show solidarity in the development of the national economy. The colors thus form a connection to the motto Travail, Justice, Solidarité (work, justice, solidarity).
