The flag of Tunisia was the first time in 1835 by the Tunisian bey Hassan I. introduced. In a similar form, it was also the flag of the Ottoman province of Tunus . Since then, the flag has only been modified slightly.

meaning

The crescent moon and the star are symbols of Islam . Both symbols are a reference to Tunisia's past as part of the Ottoman Empire .

The color red was a dynastic symbol of legitimation in the Ottoman Empire. After the country gained independence from France , the flag was adopted as the national flag.
