Order of the immediate imperial knighthood

The order of the immediate imperial knighthood was an order of knights . It was donated by Emperor Franz as Roman Emperor in 1793 for all cantons in Swabia.

The capitulars of the order, emerging from the directors of the cantons, regulated the affairs and made decisions about the admission of new members and supervised the discipline. The Imperial Knights from the five cantons who had reached the age of twenty-fifth were members of this order. Her adult sons also became members of the order.

The order expired with the HHR, but was renewed for a short time in the Kingdom of Württemberg .

Order decoration

The medal was a gold, white enameled cross. The front showed the medallion to the imperial double-headed eagle with the arms of the Swabian imperial knights . On the middle shield on the back was the coat of arms of each canton.

Ribbon and way of wearing

The ribbon was a black ribbon with a double gold border. The medal was worn either around the neck as a neck medal or on the left rope in the buttonhole. The cross for the buttonhole was a smaller one and was attached to a narrower ribbon.

The knights wore religious clothing.
