Orders and decorations of the Israel Defense Forces
Israeli military awards are given to soldiers of the Israeli Armed Forces (Tzahal) for outstanding military performance and special courage in combat. They include the Medal of Honor ( Medal of Valor ), the highest decoration, the Medal of Courage ( Medal of Courage ) and the Medal for outstanding service ( Medal of distinguished service ). Furthermore, there is the Honorable Mention of the Commander ( Commander Citation ) for the military ranks Raw Aluf (Lieutenant General) in the function of Ramatkal (chief of staff) , Aluf (Brigadier) and Tat-Aluf (Brigadier General).
The two most decorated soldiers of the Israeli armed forces are Major Nechemia Cohen (1943-1967) and the former Prime Minister , Defense Minister and Chief of Staff of Israel, Ehud Barak , each with five awards, a Distinguished Service Medal and 4 Ramtkal citations . The most highly decorated soldiers are Tat-Aluf Avigdor Kahalani (born 1944) and Samal ( corporal ) Shlomo Nitzani , who each received the Medal of Valor and the Distinguished Service Medal .
