Lauenburg Castle is a castle in Lębork , Pomeranian Voivodeship , which goes back to an order castle and was built by the Teutonic Order in the middle of the 14th century .
The castle was laid out on a rectangular floor plan without a courtyard. Lauenburg joined the Prussian League of Cities in 1410 and rose against the Teutonic Order in the Prussian City War . The castle was then occupied by Danzig troops , but was taken over by Duke Erich II of Pomerania as early as 1455 . Erich II. Took the side of Poland and received from King Casimir IV. Lauenburg and Bütow as fiefdoms "to guder Verwaringe". In the Second Peace of Thorn , the order renounced Lauenburg. De jure Lauenburg-Bütow belonged to Royal Prussia . However, the legal question remained uncertain whether Lauenburg-Bütow was a fiduciary relationship or a lien. Since 1657 the castle was again in German ownership.
The eastern gable, part of the cellars, the castle mill and a fragment of the surrounding wall have been preserved from the original order castle. Currently the castle is the seat of the district court.
