Eric
Erich is a male first name and family name. The female form is Erika , variants are Eric and Erik .
Origin, meaning and distribution
The name is of Danish and Swedish origin. East Norse Erik or West Norse Eirik is a combination of Old Norse æn 'alone' and ríkr 'ruler'.
Erich has not been exceptional in Low German for a long time; In contrast, it only became generally known in the German-speaking world in the 19th century. In Sweden the name stands for several kings including the national saint Erik IX. Richard Wagner's opera The Flying Dutchman , where Erik is Senta's fiancé, also helped him gain popularity in Germany . The name was found among the ten most common boy names of the year several times in the 1900s and 1910s. Then its popularity gradually declined until it dropped sharply in the 1950s; since the beginning of the sixties it has only rarely been awarded.
