Erich Weishaupt (born May 16, 1952 in Kaufbeuren ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper who played in the ice hockey Bundesliga from 1970 to 1987 for the ESV Kaufbeuren , the Berlin ice skating club , the Mannheim ERC and the Düsseldorfer EG . He was in the goal of the German national ice hockey team from 1975 to 1986 . He is a member of the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame .

Career

Erich Weishaupt began playing ice hockey in his home country at ESV Kaufbeuren . There he became German champions with the youngsters. Even he could not prevent relegation from the Bundesliga in 1975 . After the ice hockey world championship in 1975 , in which he was promoted to the A group and qualified for the Olympics with the German national ice hockey team, Xaver Unsinn , who was national coach and coach of the Berliner SC at the time , brought him to the Spree. With the Berliners he became German champions in the first season and as the second goalkeeper he won bronze at the Olympic Games in Innsbruck . For this success he received - together with the German Olympic ice hockey team - the Silver Laurel Leaf .

With nonsense resignation as national coach in 1977, Weishaupt also resigned, but returned to the German goal in 1978 and was also in the squad at the 1979 ice hockey world championship . His move from Berlin to Mannheim in 1978 caused a stir. Although duly committed by Berlin, the Mannheim ERC only received the player pass after the official transfer deadline due to internal quarrels between the Berliner SC and the upstream Eissport Berlin KG and Eishockey Berlin KG, so that the DEB wanted to withdraw all points earned up to that point on November 8th . Mannheim and SB Rosenheim, who were also affected by another player, obtained an injunction so that all Bundesliga games were canceled on one weekend. The clubs finally won against the association in an ordinary court.

Overall, however, Weishaupt had its best time in Mannheim. In 1979 he was voted Player of the Year and in 1980 he won the German championship with the Mannheim ERC . In 1983 he played again in the ice hockey world championship and then moved to Düsseldorfer EG . With the ice hockey world championship in 1986 he stepped down from the big stage.

He returned to the Allgäu and played another year at EA Kempten in the second division, but then turned to his profession as a dental technician.

statistics

In 15 Bundesliga years, Weishaupt played 606 games in which he received 100 penalty minutes. He played 107 times for the national team.
