Daniel Erich
Daniel Erich (born February 19, 1649 in Lübeck , † October 30, 1712 in Güstrow ) was a German organist and composer .
Life
Daniel Erich's family probably came from Lübeck, his father of the same name was a lutenist and lute maker. Erich was a student of Dietrich Buxtehude for a few years before he was given the position of organist at the parish church in Güstrow in 1679, where he worked until his death.
Erich enjoyed a very good reputation as an organ teacher and specialist, and in the latter capacity he was in close contact with the organ builder Arp Schnitger . He created chorale preludes and verses , which are organ movements that replace a sung verse in a chorale. Only four of these works have survived. The chorale prelude to Christ we should praise was only rediscovered in 1984 in the handwritten Neumeister collection of Johann Gottfried Neumeister (1757–1840) or also called the Arnstädter Organ Book, in the library of Yale University .
