Orfila Bardesio

Orfila Bardesio (born May 18, 1922 in Montevideo , † October 14, 2009 there ) was a Uruguayan poet.

Bardesio made his debut in 1939 with the volume of poetry Voi . This was followed by La muerte de la luna (1942) and Poema (1946), all of which were received positively by literary criticism. Jules Supervielle praised her as a great poet, and she was accepted into the literary circle of the Generación del 45 . In 1950 Bardesio married the poet and children's book author Julio Fernández . With him she moved to Treinta y Tres , where he taught Spanish and she taught literature.

For her Christian-Catholic trilogy Uno (published in 1955, 1959 and 1971) and also for her work Poema , she received four times the price of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay. After the death of her husband in 1974, she returned to Montevideo. Her main work El ciervo radiante was published there in 1984 . For this, as for Poema , it received an award from the Intendencia Municipal of Montevideo . In 1989 she published the literary-religious essay La luz del ojo en el follaje . Her last volume of poetry, La canción de la tierra , appeared a few months after her death. Many of her texts have also appeared in newspapers and magazines such as Indice , La Nación , Alfar and Marcha .
