The organ of the Moritzkirche in Olomouc is the largest organ in the Czech Republic . It was started by Michael Engler in 1745 and expanded from 1959 to 1971 by the Rieger-Kloss company . It has 135 stops on five manuals and a pedal .
The oldest mention of an organist at the Moritzkirche in Olomouc is from 1496. In 1716 a new positive was built for the Marienkapelle.
In 1730 a large empty organ case was built. In it sat Michael Engler from Breslau a three-manual organ with 44 votes . In 1843 two registers were replaced by Christoph Erler. Otherwise the instrument remained without further major interventions.
Since 1959, the Rieger-Kloss company from Krnov has been building further works around the existing instrument with an additional 94 registers. From 1989 onwards Ivo Roháč carried out some minor changes and repairs. Since that year, there have been annual organ festivals in Olomouc, initiated by Anton Schindler.
