The organs of the Matthias Church in Budapest are together one of the largest organs in Hungary . The main organ has 88 registers with five manuals , the choir organ 23 registers.
In 1908/09 a new organ was built for the Matthias Church. Emperor Franz Josef donated it on the occasion of his 40th anniversary to the throne. Franz Rieger from the Bohemian Jägerndorf built an instrument with 77 registers on four (?) Manuals. In 1932 the same company expanded it to 86 registers with five manuals and provided it with an electropneumatic action.
In 1984 the Czech organ building company Rieger-Kloss carried out a general refurbishment during which the entire organ was dismantled. After that it had 85 sounding registers. An expansion took place in 1999. In 2005 there was a restoration with modifications by the Pécs organ manufacture.
