List of organs in Hungary
The list of organs contains the most important organs in Hungary .
history
The oldest known organ in Hungary in the then Roman Aquincum from the 3rd century has been preserved in parts.
Up until the 19th century, organs in Hungary were mainly built by German-speaking organ builders. Ludwig Mooser from Salzburg settled in Eger in 1863 and built some important organs. Josef Angster founded the country's most important organ building company in 1866. The Bohemian company Rieger opened a branch in Budapest around 1900. Miklós Váradi took over the management of a workshop in 1912.
In 1949 the organ building companies were nationalized. Váradi was again allowed to produce under his name from 1981, followed by the founding of Aquincum Orgelbau (Aquincum Orgonagyár) in Budapest and the Pecs Organ Manufactory (Pécsi Organoepitö). After 1990 some organs from Germany were also bought.
