Oriental Brewery or OB is a South Korean brewery .

history

In 1952, the Doosan Group founded the Oriental Brewery. In 1998 OB was taken over by the InBev group, only to be sold again in 2009 by the parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev to a subsidiary of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts as part of a debt reduction program. An agreed five-year buyback right was exercised in early 2014.

Oriental Brewery currently produces some of Korea's most popular beers, including the OB, Cass and Cafri Lager brands. All OB beers are brewed from rice instead of the barley malt common in the West .

Brands

OB warehouse
The OB lager is a light lager with 4.4 percent alcohol by volume . As number 4 of the most popular beers in South Korea, it is available in cans, bottles and on tap. This beer has been brewed since 1948. In 2003 the name was changed from "OB Lager" to "OB", and rice was added to the recipe at the same time. Since June 2006 the name has been "OB Blue", again the recipe has been slightly changed.
Cass warehouse
A light gold-colored lager with 4.5% alcohol by volume, the second best-selling beer in South Korea. Originally made by the Cass Brewery, the brand was taken over by Jinro - Coors , one of the leading breweries in the country. In the 1980s, Cass Lager achieved a market share of over 70%, but gave up market leadership to Hite by 1994 . The Oriental Brewery bought the Cass brand from Jinro-Coors in 1999 and rebuilt it. In 2000, OB again claimed a 51% market share.
Cass Light
A light lager with reduced carbohydrate content and 4.0% alcohol by volume.
Cass X2
A light beer with 2.9% alcohol by volume.
OB Light
An OB lager (4.2 vol% alcohol) with 30% lower physiological calorific value .
Cass Red
Available since 2007, Cass Red is a light lager with 6.9% alcohol by volume. It can be counted among the strong beers .
Cafri
Cafri (4.2 vol .-% alcohol) is one of the lightest of the common South Korean beers. It is sold in 330 ml clear bottles but lags behind OB, Cass and Hite in terms of popularity.
