history

The Coors Brewing Company was the main subsidiary of the Adolph Coors Company . In 1873 the German immigrant Adolph Coors founded a brewery in Golden (Colorado) . His American lager , nicknamed “Banquet Beer” and now trading under the name “Coors Original”, is said to derive its taste from the pure water of the Rocky Mountains . The Coors company survived the prohibition , an alcohol ban laid down in the US Constitution from 1920 to 1933 , by shifting its activities to the manufacture of other products such as malted milk or ceramics . The ceramics business was later continued by the independent company CoorsTek .

According to the Coors website, the company was in 1959 the first US brewery beer in one of aluminum produced beverage can bottled.

For much of its history, Coors beer has been more of a regional product, mainly sold in the US west. The main reason for this was that Coors beer is not pasteurized and distribution was only allowed where an uninterrupted cold chain could be guaranteed. This made beer a rarity on the east coast of the United States , and travelers to Colorado often carried individual crates in their own luggage on their return journey. This icon-like status was reflected in pop culture: The 1977 film " A Boiled Rascal " was about the illegal shipment of Coors from Texas to Georgia in a truck . It wasn't until the early 1990s that the company expanded its sales territory across the United States.

Through its owners and their foundation, the Coors Brewery has played a prominent role in US politics by supporting numerous conservative initiatives, including the Heritage Foundation . Board chairman Pete Coors ran for a Republican seat in the US Senate in 2004 , but lost to Democrat Ken Salazar .

The Coors Brewing Company owns the naming rights to Coors Field , the baseball stadium of the Colorado Rockies .

In 2008, Molson Coors founded the MillerCoors joint venture with SABMiller . The aim was to bundle sales activities in North America. In October 2016, Molson Coors took over all shares in the former joint venture.

With the purchase of the Czech brewing group StarBev in 2012, the Molson Coors Brewing Company expanded its activities in Central and Eastern Europe. StarBev was renamed Molson Coors Central Europe and, after merging with British subsidiaries, Molson Coors Europe .
