The original and cast collection of the Archaeological Institute of Saarland University is the institute's study collection.

This collection of the Archaeological Institute of Saarland University is a semi-public collection of exemplary original works of art and casts of original works. As a study collection, it is primarily used to train students in the subject of Classical Archeology and also in related disciplines. Interested visitors can also visit the collection by arrangement. It is a comparatively young collection; construction did not begin until 1970. The basic stock was a private collection, which was expanded over time through acquisitions. There is no budget for the collection, it is run solely through donations. The chair holder is automatically the director, currently Carola Reinsberg since 1995 , previously Friedrich Hiller as founding director .

The original collection consists of works of cabaret from all epochs of antiquity, starting with the Mycenaean period up to late antiquity . The inventory consists of works of ceramics, terracotta, lamps, glass, jewelry, mirrors, precious metal tools and ivory. The plaster cast collection focuses on Greek sculpture and Roman portraits . There are also a significant number of replicas of ancient bronzes and diptychs .
