The Eodiscina are a group of the trilobites , a class of extinct marine arthropods , and are counted among the Agnostida .

features

Eodiscines are small trilobites, which were limited to the Cambrian (2nd and 3rd series). The most distinctive features of this group of animals are the two or three pleural segments of the thorax and the less differentiated spindle rings of the pygidium .

Occurrence

A planktonic way of life is assumed, which can also explain the large geographical distribution of some species. This, as well as the short-lived nature of individual Eodiscine species, predestines them as key fossils . A popular example is the trilobite Marocconus notabilis from the Middle Cambrian of Morocco, which is the key fossil of the notabilis zone. Even so, Eodiscins are generally relatively rare. An exception is, for example, the Lower Cambrian Eodiscid schist from Görlitz (Saxony) where the species Serrodiscus (Eodiscus) silesius occurs more frequently in layers.
