Gert Vanderaerden

Gert Vanderaerden (born January 23, 1973 in Herk-de-Stad ) is a former Belgian road cyclist.

Gert Vanderaerden won two stages in the Ronde van Limburg in 1994 . The next year he was successful there again in a section and he won two stages in the Tour de Namur . At the end of the season he rode for the Belgian cycling team Palmans as a stagiaire and got a professional contract for the following year. In his first season there he was first in the overall ranking of the Coca-Cola Trophy and he won a stage in the Tour of Austria . In 1998 Vanderaerden was successful at Omloop Vlaamse Scheldeboorden . In the 2001 season he drove for the Belgian team Vlaanderen-T Interim and in 2002 he moved back to Palmans. There he was third in the road race of the Belgian championship in 2002 and in 2004 he won the Circuito de Getxo . The next year he won the International Wielder Trofee Jong Maar Moedig , two stages in the Ronde van Vlaams-Brabant and he became Belgian amateur champion. In 2006 Vanderaerden and his team Yawadoo-Colba-ABM won the Three Corners Criterium in Egypt and in 2007 he rode for the Professional Continental Team DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed .

His father Lucien Vanderaerden was also a professional cyclist, as were his older brothers Eric Vanderaerden and Danny Vanderaerden . Michael Vanderaerden , his nephew, who was born in 1987, also started a career as a cyclist and rode as a professional until 2011.
