Original sound quality

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original Sound Quality (OSQ) is a file format for lossless audio data compression introduced by Steinberg in 2002 with the Wavelab 4 audio processing software .

The format enables compression rates of up to 50% with good source material . This means that it cannot be compared with compression methods such as MP3 , which achieve rates of up to 90% with lossy compression. OSQ is more for archiving audio material than for daily use.

When using it, however, it should be noted that it is a proprietary format developed by Steinberg that is not generally supported. An alternative is the free FLAC codec .
