Mark Collie
Mark Collie (born January 18, 1956 in Waynesboro , Tennessee ) is an American country musician and film actor.
Beginnings
Influenced by rockabilly stars like Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins , Mark Collie developed an early enthusiasm for country music. He learned to play piano and guitar and joined a band at the age of twelve. He earned his first money as a disc jockey at a local radio station.
After finishing school he toured the US with various bands and spent eighteen months as a musician in Hawaii . His attempt to join the army failed when he was diagnosed with diabetes during the draft (years later, he regularly campaigned for fundraising for the benefit of diabetes research). In 1982 he moved to Nashville to try his luck as a songwriter.
Career
Since he was unable to sell his songs, he quickly worked as a singer. As an interpreter of his own songs, he finally managed to get the vice president of MCA Records to take notice. In 1989 a record deal was signed. His first single, Something With A Ring To It , reached a middle spot in the top 100 a year later. He made it into the top 20 in 1991 with Let Her Go and in the top 10 in 1995 with Even The Man In The Moon Is Crying and in 1996 with Born To Love You . Although he still had a top 20 hit with Hard Lovin 'Woman in 1995, the big breakthrough did not want to succeed. Sales figures and hit parade placements soon dropped. In 1996 he switched to the Columbia label, where he lost his contract after producing a not too successful long-playing record.
As early as 1993, Mark Collie appeared in a short film: Together with other greats in country music, he appeared in Country's Cutting Edge . In 1997 he took on a supporting role in the Steven Seagal film Fire Down Below . In 2004, Alabama Love Story , he first came to the fore as a rodeo rider. In 2004 he had a small role as a professional killer in The Punisher .
