The Orne Islands are a group of small islands off the Danco coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . They are on Gerlache Strait , just north of Rongé Island .
Participants in the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery carried out the first rough mapping. The name of the group probably goes back to Norwegian whalers and found use in the records of the Scottish geologist David Ferguson , who worked in the area in 1913 on board the whaling ship Hanka .
