The Gerlache Strait ( French Détroit De Gerlache ) is a strait that separates the Palmer Archipelago from the Danco coast of the Antarctic Peninsula .
The Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery (1866–1934) explored this waterway from January to February 1898 during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) and named it after his expedition ship Belgica . It was later renamed in honor of Gerlache.
