Oronko rock
The Oronko rock ( Japanese オ ロ ン コ 岩 Oronko-iwa ) is a 60 m high rock at the fishing port Utoro in Shari , Okhotsk sub-prefecture in Hokkaidō , Japan.
The rock got its name from the language of the Ainu , from which the name for the original inhabitants, the Oroken or Uilta ( ウ ィ ル タ ), a small Tungus people , comes.
From the flat surface of the Oronko rock one has a 360 ° panoramic view of Cape Puyuni ( プ ユ ニ 岬 Puyuni-misaki ), Cape Chashikotsu ( チ ャ シ コ ツ 崎 Chashikotsu-saki ) and the Sea of Okhotsk . Together with the fishing port of Utoro and the Shiretoko mountain range, the view from the Oronko rock is one of the "eight beautiful landscapes of Shiretoko " ( 知 床 八景 ).
