The Querfurt flood retention basin is used for flood protection in the Querne catchment area in Saxony-Anhalt. The flood retention basin is located between Querfurt and Lodersleben. The Querne (in the further course of Weida), which flows over the Saale into the Elbe , is dammed during high water . The Querfurt flood retention basin is operated by the Saxony-Anhalt dam operation.
The dam is a straight earth dam.
The flood retention basin was built between 2016 and 2018 after damage from flooding in Querfurt.
