The Orwell Lake is a small lake in the eastern part of Signy Iceland in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is located southeast of the Orwell Glacier in the Moraine Valley . It was created by the retreat of the glacier.
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1981 based on the name of the glacier of the same name. Its namesake is the transport ship Orwell of the Norwegian whaling company Tønsbergs Hvalfangeri , which operated between 1926 and 1926 and between 1929 and 1930 in the waters around the southern Orkney Islands.
