Os Guinness

Os Guinness (born September 30, 1941 in China ) is a British sociologist, social critic, teacher, evangelical apologist and thought leader, speaker and author of over thirty books.

Life

Guinness is a descendant of the famous Irish brewer Arthur Guinness and the son of a missionary doctor. He grew up in China and witnessed the Communists' seizure of power in 1949, who expelled his family in 1951. He then attended schools in England and studied theology and philosophy at the University of London . He continued his studies and did his PhD in sociology with Peter Berger at Oxford University . There he received a PhD in Social Sciences from Oriel College .

In the 1960s, Guinness worked with the philosophers and evangelical apologist Francis Schaeffer in the faith community L'Abri in Swiss Huémoz . He then worked as a freelance reporter for the BBC . In 1984 he moved to the United States, where he was visiting professor at the Woodrow Wilson Center and professor at the Brookings Institution think tank in Washington, DC . 1986 to 198 was a foundation director of the Williamsburg Charter Foundation .

Guinness has also been a speaker at many prestigious universities, in front of business people and in front of politicians worldwide. He is one of the speakers in the team of the US apologist Ravi Zacharias . He is a Senior Fellow at the Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics in Oxford and the EastWest Institute in New York .
