Osea Island ( Old English Osyth Island , formerly also called Osey ) is an inhabited tidal island in the mouth of the Blackwater River, in Essex , England .

Osea Island is approximately 1.5 km² and is connected to the north bank of the river by a dam that is flooded when the water is high. The island is owned by music producer Nigel Frieda. Before 2004, the island was inhabited by a small community of artists, including the painter Luke Elwes , the photographer Hélène Binet and the philosopher David Papineau .

Osea Island was the site of a torpedo boat base during the First World War . 2,000 sailors were quartered there, mainly in temporary huts that were removed after the war.

Northey Island is about one mile to the west.
