Oskar Braun ( February 16, 1867 in Vienna - after 1940) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ) and stage actor .

Life

Oskar Braun, the son of a factory owner, began his singing career with Count Esterhazy in Totis , where he has appeared in various operetta roles. Even then, his pretty, fresh voice was pleasantly noticed.

He found his first engagement in 1889 at the Vienna Carltheater as the first operetta tenor, stayed there for two years, and in 1891 was committed to the city theater in Cologne, where he made the transition to opera. As soon as he appeared for the first time in the Cavalleria rusticana , he received encouraging applause. He worked in Cologne for four years and followed an application to the Stadttheater in Frankfurt in 1895, where he had mastered the lyric tenor subject and the elegant French drama opera since Franz Naval's departure and understood it firmly during the time he worked there (three years) to sing in favor of the audience.

From Frankfurt he went to Paris to perfect his voice, where he trained his voice even further with Professors Edmond Duvernoy and Giovanni Sbriglia . In 1898 he went to Berlin, where he became a member of the Theater des Westens, but also achieved decisive success in the New Royal Opera House (Kroll), both in operettas and in lyrical and drama operas.

In particular, “Romeo”, “Faust”, “Fra Diavolo”, “Don José”, “Lyonel” etc. have always been among the most popular performances in his operatic repertoire. In 1900 the artist reappeared in his hometown, first in the Theater an der Wien (director Karl Langkammer ), where he found general recognition in Mikado , "Hofmeister" in Girosle, Girosla , Donna Juanita etc. In 1901 he appeared as a guest at the Raimundtheater and helped the operetta Der Kellermeister to achieve the great success that this operetta achieved there with his performance as "Count von Klingen".

His voice was strong, especially in the middle register, of the greatest euphoria, and is characterized by a pleasant timbre . His lecture showed great musical security.

From 1902 to 1903 he worked again at the Theater des Westens in Berlin, from 1900 to 1901 at the Berlin Court Opera, from 1903 to 1907 at the Central Theater Berlin in operettas, from 1907 to 1911 at the New Operetta Theater in Berlin.

He founded his own Oscar Braun operetta company around 1910 and went on tour with it, for example from 1912 to 1913 in Amsterdam. From 1915 to 1920 he also appeared in operettas at the Komische Oper Berlin and from 1922 to 1923 at the Kurtheater in Freudenstadt.

Oscar Braun, of Jewish descent, still lived in Berlin in 1941, nothing is known about his further life.
