Oslo Nye Teater in Oslo is Norway's most visited theater.

The Oslo Nye Teater is an urban theater in central Oslo .

It consists of three stages in three different buildings: Oslo Nye Hovedscenen (in Rosenkrantzgate 10 ), Oslo Nye Centralteatret (in Akersgata 38 ) and Oslo Nye Trikkestallen (in Torshovgata 33 ). The ONCentralteatret restaurant is located in the basement of the main theater building .

The Oslo Nye Teater (today's main stage at 10 Rosenkrantzgate under the name Oslo Nye Hovedscenen ) was opened on February 26, 1929 under the name "Det Nye Teater". The theater emerged as a result of numerous large charity events during and after the First World War . In the first few years of its existence, the program primarily performed Norwegian dramas. The Norwegian writer Johan Bojer was one of the most ardent proponents of this theater. The theater finally got its own building at Rosenkrantz 'gate 10 in Oslo and was able to attract good actors from the Nationaltheatret , such as Harald Stormoen , Henrik Aabel and Odd Frogg . The Det Nye Teater merged in 1959 for financial reasons with the Folketeatret and later with the Oslo Nye Teater . The Oslo Nye Teater took over almost all employees from the two previous theater ensembles. The first theater director after the merger was Axel Otto Normann . In 1967 there was a comprehensive renovation of the houses. The city of Oslo assumed the costs and further financial responsibility for ongoing business operations. In 1971, the previously independent Centralteatret was added as a further stage and was integrated into the Oslo Nye Teater. On February 18, 2003, the Trikkestallen was added as an additional stage. Before that, the Trikkestallen was a former engine shed and storage building, which was expanded and converted into a modern event location with public funds.

Oslo Nye Teater is the busiest theater in Oslo and in all of Norway. In 2008 it had 197,080 visitors. As of December 31, 2008, the theater had 122 employees (permanent or fixed term) and a total of around 400 people were committed. The theater is operated by Osly Nye Teater AS , a wholly owned subsidiary of Oslo Municipality.

In 2009 Svein Sturla Hungnes was appointed theater director. From 1 January 2010 took over Catrine Telle the lead and officially opened in a ceremony the premiere on 29 January 2010 at Oslo Nye Hovedscenen the new musical Spring Awakening ( Spring Awakening ). At the turn of the year 2013/2014 Kim Bjarke took over the theater management.
