The Osman Hill Mangabe ( Lophocebus osmani ) is a primate of the family Cercopithecidae (Cercopithecidae). For a long time it was considered a subspecies of the gray-cheeked indication , but was raised to species status in 2007. The species is named in honor of the biologist William Charles Osman Hill (1901–1975).
Osman Hill Mangaben are slender primates with long limbs and a long tail. Their fur is colored black-brown on the upper side, the underside is lighter, mostly yellow-gray. The head has an elongated snout, the long cheek hairs are gray or golden yellow in color. There is long, reddish-brown, coat-like hair on the shoulders.
Osman-Hill-Mangaben inhabit plateau areas in Cameroon , they are widespread from the border with Nigeria in the west to the province of Est . They live in forests and occur primarily in areas over 600 meters above sea level.
Little is known about the way of life of this species. Like the gray-cheeked specimen, it is probably a diurnal tree dweller who lives in small groups and feeds on fruits, nuts and small animals.
Nothing is known about the degree of danger either. The IUCN still summarizes the species with the gray cheek indication, but considers an urgent reassessment necessary.
