The Osnabrücker Jugendchor eV - OJC for short - is a mixed choir (S / A / T / B) that was founded in 1974 by the Osnabrück cathedral choir director Johannes Rahe and has been under the direction of Clemens Breitschaft since 2012.
structure
Until the middle of May 2012, the choir with its 50 fellow singers from the city and the district of Osnabrück was under the direction of the founder at the time, Johannes Rahe. As of May 19, 2012, the leadership of the youth choir was handed over to the new cathedral choir director of Osnabrück Cathedral, Clemens Breitschaft. In contrast to other children's or youth choirs , the young singers grow up in their families and not in a boarding school. For a few years there has been a cooperation with the Ursulaschule for the first time, a grammar school sponsored by the school foundation of the Diocese of Osnabrück . There were choir classes formed there. Young people make the hobby "choir" and the school to better link Nevertheless, many singers continue to go to various schools in the city and district. Most of the singers received their previous musical training in the Osnabrück Cathedral Choir and then switched to the Osnabrück Youth Choir at the age of 14. There is no exit age, but many members retire from their active phase after completing school or during their studies. Nevertheless, many alumni come back to the Osnabrück Youth Choir on Good Friday and Holy Saturday in the High Cathedral in Osnabrück - there is a constant connection between the alumni and the singers who are still active.
Tours and concerts
As the musical ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Osnabrück Youth Choir travels to the most diverse regions of the world. In addition to Turkey (2011), Syria / Jordan (2010), Hungary (2009), Austria / Serbia / Croatia / Slovenia (2008), Poland (2006), the tours have also led to Ghana (2004). He had previously traveled to South America, the USA and, for example, Japan. But not only international concerts are on the OJC's program. The youth choir organized the opening service of the World Youth Day 2005 in Bonn on the Schlosswiese, as well as the Corpus Christi service at the Catholic Day 2008 in Osnabrück. In addition to some television appearances, such as at the Christmas service in the High Cathedral in Osnabrück in 1998 and the award of the German Federal Environment Foundation 2003, numerous awards and various CD recordings document the high level of the choir.
In addition to the many concerts, the Osnabrück Youth Choir supports the Osnabrück Cathedral Choir in the musical organization of the services in the High Cathedral in Osnabrück. This means that rehearsals three to four times a week also take place in the rehearsal room of the cathedral choir, the choir hall. The repertoire of the Osnabrück Youth Choir ranges from the beginnings of sacred a-cappella music (Gregorian chant) to modern and experimental music. But a secular repertoire is also on the rehearsal program for the young people. Numerous collaborations with orchestras from home and abroad expand the repertoire to include the great oratorios by Handel, Mendelsohn and others. a., but also about the masses for example by Mozart and Schubert and the Passions of Bach.

The mixed line-up has been a peculiarity of the Osnabrück Youth Choir since it was founded. The singers of a vocal group (soprano, alto, etc.) do not stand together, but rather next to representatives of other vocal groups, which results in greater independence in the voice leadership and a stronger tonal interweaving of the individual voices.
