Choir class

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A choir class is a form of music-making in school classes in which singing is the focus of an extended music lesson. As with the winds and string classes, this type of teaching follows the idea of an action-oriented music lesson , through which all children in a class should have practical access to music.

concept

The main difference to the school choir is the age equality and the fact that in the choir class all children can and should sing along, so that an early selection based on supposed talent is avoided. Choir work in the class form therefore requires changed music-pedagogical concepts and also affects the repertoire to be selected . Usually the classes have at least two hours of music a week, although the amount of choir work varies. In Germany , the federal states of Bavaria and Lower Saxony havespecial models developed for choir classes. Individual schools also offer choir classes in the other federal states without this following a state-wide model.

Comparable concepts for promoting singing in primary school can be found under the names Jekiss ( every child has his voice , Münster ), JeKiSti ( every child his voice , Neuss ), Toni singt ( starts in daycare , North Rhine-Westphalia), SMS ( singing makes sense , Ostwestfalen-Lippe ) and Primacanta ( Frankfurt am Main ).

Bavaria

In Bavaria, from 2003 on, choir classes were set up for the 5th and 6th school year in general schools . The model takes place as part of the regular compulsory music lessons. Correct handling of one's own voice is named as an important goal. In addition to the regular two-hour music lessons, voice training is offered in small groups. It is recommended that children participate in the school choir.

In detail, the community experience in musical activity, the practical teaching of music theory and the joy of concert experiences are named as further goals . The interdisciplinary effects are expected to be improved listening, a positive influence on the children's self-confidence and stimulation for meaningful leisure activities . Parents can register their children specifically for the choir classes. An extensive state-funded training program is available to interested teachers .

Lower Saxony

In 2003 a comprehensive model for choir classes in Lower Saxony was created. The initiative came about in cooperation between individual music teachers , the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media , and the Ministry of Culture . The aim of the model is to give singing a new, conceptually more professional status and to implement this while fulfilling the other curricular requirements for music lessons in general schools. A model for primary schools combines training of the singing voice with the rest of the content of music lessons and is intended to provide better practical preparation for continuing music lessons in secondary schools . The aim is to provide the Lower Saxony primary and secondary schools with choir classes as widely as possible.

An advantage over the bass and string classes is seen in the unnecessary purchase of musical instruments . To achieve these goals, a comprehensive state-funded training program for teachers has been implemented. There are currently over 200 choir classes in Lower Saxony (as of 2017). In regional and national choir class concerts, the children involved can experience themselves singing as part of a larger group and gain their first performance experience.

The schools have the opportunity to establish their own forms of implementation within the framework of the state requirements.

In the region Braunschweig the cathedral cantor initiated Gerd-Peter Münden 2017, the "Project class! We sing ”, which has a similar intention.
