Although he still played a second game, he was only seven minutes on the field for MK Dons. On March 9th he was loaned to Northampton Town for a month . He played his only game in the 1-0 win over Peterborough United , but he was substituted at half time due to an injury.

In preparation for the 2009/10 season, Magnay and the Chelsea Reserve completed a training camp in the United Arab Emirates . There there was an argument between players from Chelsea and Al-Ahli Dubai , in which he was involved.

In March 2010, he sustained a serious injury during the Chelsea Reserve game against Charlton Athletic , damaging the anterior cruciate ligament and collateral ligament , as well as splitting off part of the kneecap .
