The parish hall of the Easter Church

The Osterkirche is a listed church building in Ottensen , a district of Hamburg in the Altona district . The building is entered in Hamburg's list of monuments under number 14368. The church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Parish of Ottensen Christianskirche-Osterkirche in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

History and architecture

The Kreuzkirchengemeinde in Ottensen had the building erected between 1930 and 1931, and it was consecrated on January 4, 1931. The plans were drawn up in 1927 by the architect Kurt Stoltenberg, initially as an employee of the Raabe & Wöhlecke architectural office , and from 1930 he was the sole owner of the building. The building was made of brick and is based on Hamburg Expressionism . The tower is low in relation to the nave. The main building contained the church and the parish rooms since the inauguration. The dark and functional facade is reminiscent of industrial buildings. The interior was characterized by the dark wood of the galleries, the benches and the beamed ceiling.

The architect Otto Andersen modernized the interior from 1957 to 1958. The powerful, expressionist cross and the altar by Walter von Ruckteschell were removed and replaced by an altar, a bronze cross and altar candlesticks by Fritz Fleer . At the same time, the wooden surfaces were given a new coat of paint in light gray tones.

Since the merger of the Christian parish and the Easter parish to form the Ottensen parish in 2007, no parish services have been held in the Easter church. An Evangelical Lutheran primary school run by the Bugenhagen Schools in Alsterdorf has moved into the building complex.

In the time of the burgeoning National Socialism, 21 pastors signed the word and confession of Altona pastors in the need and confusion of public life on December 14, 1932 .

A plaque attached to the building commemorates the dead and injured on the Altonaer Blutsonntag , a demonstration in 1932, the text reads: During a demonstration by the SA on July 17, 1932, there were dead and injured. This Blood Sunday in Altona was the occasion for the word and confession of Altona pastors in the need and confusion of public life, drawn up in the Easter parish and signed on December 14, 1932. 21 pastors turned against the influence of the parties on church proclamation, the deification of the state and the civil war mentality and called for a political and social order based on the gospel.
