history

The Ostlerhütte was built mainly in 1928 and 1929 by the skilled precision mechanic Otto Eberle, who ran it himself as a hut manager until 1977. It was originally a private initiative and was supported during the construction phase by friends and acquaintances as well as donations in kind. The hut was named after Hans Ostler, who at the time donated the wood for its construction.

The first hut was inaugurated on July 14, 1929. In 1951, the Ostlerhütte underwent a major renovation in which it was expanded into a mountain house for around 50,000 DM. The main reason for the expansion was the construction of the Breitenbergbahn in March 1951 and the resulting better accessibility for hikers and tourists. In the opinion of the mayor at the time, Franz Keller, the original wooden hut was no longer sufficiently representative of Pfronten against this background.

The Ostlerhütte is still a popular destination to this day. Today it is marketed under the label "Hut mit Herz".
